John Mayer Chokes Up And Apologizes On Stage For 'playboy' Comments

John Mayer got choked up and apologized at his Nashville concert Wednesday night (February 10th) following criticism over his Playboy interview, where he used the N-word and said his penis "is sort of like a white supremacist." Mayer's apology came during his performance of "Gravity" at which point he stopped playing and acknowledged his bandmates, some of whom are African-American.

With his voice cracking throughout the apology, Mayer said, "In the quest to be clever. I completely forgot about the people that I love and that love me." Mayer admitted that he lives in a world of "selfishness and greediness and arrogance," adding that he thought if he could just be "speedy and witty and pull together as many fast words and phrases as I could, that I would be clever enough to buy myself another day without anybody pinning me down and saying, 'You're a creep.'"

He continued, "I should have just given that up and played the guitar. I didn't. So I decided I would try to be as clever as possible all the time, and I did that at the expense of people that I love and that feels absolutely terrible."

He nearly broke down on stage, telling the crowd, "I think it's important that you know that everybody on the stage is here playing for me not because they condone what I say in any given interview, and certainly not in the interview that's making the rounds today. They're not on the stage because they support what I say, they're on the stage because they support myself as a possible future grown-up. Maybe they see something that I haven't looked at in awhile. So maybe I need to take a break from trying to be clever and just spend a little time looking at what they see, because they've done an unbelievable thing by standing on the stage and standing by my side playing tonight."

John Mayer has admitted to kissing Perez Hilton before, but now the gossip blogger is dishing more details about the 32-year-old singer-songwriter. In a new interview posted on YouTube, Hilton says the pair has had a "secret relationship" via email and text over the past year -- not in a romantic way, Hilton says, but just a "secret correspondence." He went on to say that Mayer invited him over to his Manhattan apartment in October, and it was then that Mayer revealed that he once had "a penis in his mouth" and that he "loves to watch gay porn." Hilton added, "He name-checked his favorite gay porn star" -- Brent Corigan. Hilton insisted he's not making the story up and would take a lie-detector test to prove it. The gossip mogul is not pleased with what Mayer has been saying about him in varoius interviews and is convinced that Mayer is gay.

I was dating Jessica at the time, and I remember seeing Perez Hilton flitting about this club and acting as though he had just invented homosexuality. All of a sudden I thought, I can outgay this guy right now. I grabbed him and gave him the dirtiest, tongue-iest kiss I have ever put on anybody -- almost as if I hated fags. I don't think my mouth was even touching when I was tongue kissing him, that's how disgusting this kiss was. I'm a little ashamed. I think it lasted about half a minute. I really think it went on too long."
