Them Crooked Vultures Reach 'austin City Limits' This Weekend

By: Don Kaye

Them Crooked Vultures will perform on a special edition of the PBS music series Austin City Limits this Saturday night (February 13th), marking their second national television appearance after last weekend's debut on Saturday Night Live. The band's Austin City Limits set was filmed last September and will be the sole performance on the episode. The group finishes up its current North American tour on Thursday night (February 11th) in Atlanta.

Them Crooked Vultures features Dave Grohl on the drums, where he started as a musician, after 14 years of fronting Foo Fighters. Grohl told us he enjoys being behind the kit again: "I feel most comfortable behind the drums. I mean, being the lead singer of a band I actually feel kind of uncomfortable. I like doing it, and the challenge and the fear is one of the things that I like about it. But playing the drums, it's like I just feel totally comfortable doing it. I don't really worry that, you know, I'm not gonna be able to do what I'm supposed to do."

Check your local listings for when this weekend's Austin City Limits will run on your local PBS station.

Them Crooked Vultures, which also features Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist/singer Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, released their self-titled debut disc last November.

The trio plan to record again later this year. Grohl and Homme both intend to work with their other groups as well again, possibly in 2010.

After wrapping up this run, the Vultures'next gigs are the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit at London's Royal Albert Hall on March 22nd, the Coachella Festival in California on April 16th, and the Joint in Las Vegas on April 17th.
