Blink Frontman Releasing Third Angels & Airwaves Album This Weekend

By: Don Kaye

Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge's side project, Angels & Airwaves, releases its third studio album on Sunday (February 14th), appropriately titled Love for Valentine's Day. The record is possibly the most ambitious effort yet from DeLonge, who is giving the whole thing away as a free digital download, with a deluxe physical edition to come later. Love is also the name of a full-length movie that accompanies the album, a science fiction flick for which DeLonge is trying to secure a theatrical release. DeLonge told EW.com that he thinks the film "is going to be an incredible arthouse flick that has tremendous heart and soul to it," adding that it has "an incredible message."

As for the music on the Love album, DeLonge told us that the band went for an even bigger sound than on its first two records: "It's like blending, you know, Radiohead and U2 together with these kind of Pink Floyd movements, you know, in the sense of where things happen unpredictably and take you into these epic soundscapes. It's very much in the spirit of Angels & Airwaves, but it sounds way, way more thought out and way more ambitious, you know."

DeLonge calls the Love project, which he financed heavily out of his own pocket with no help from his record label, "the pinnacle of my art."

The album can be downloaded in its entirety starting Friday at Fuel.tv.

DeLonge says that Angels & Airwaves will be announcing tour dates in support of Love in the near future.

As for Blink, he told EW.com that the band is just mapping out its plans now for recording its first new studio album since 2003, with the record tentatively scheduled to arrive about a year from now.
