Killers Cancel Next Three Shows Due To 'family Illness'

By: Don Kaye

The Killers have abruptly canceled three Australian shows, including two festival appearances, due to a family illness. A club gig on Friday night (February 12th) has been scrapped, along with outdoor events this weekend in Sydney and Perth. A statement issued by the group said that they apologize for the sudden cancellations and still hope to play their final two Australian dates on February 20th and 21st.

The group also scrapped recent plans to tour other Asian countries due to "a serious illness of a close family member," so the cancellation of the Australian shows could mean that the unspecified illness has taken a turn for the worse.

The band also used the new statement to refute rumors that they were breaking up, saying, "The Killers would also like to take this opportunity to assure their fans that any concerns about the future of the band are unfounded. They are all looking forward to some time off at the end of this tour as they have been on the road for a long time, but there are no plans for an indefinite hiatus."

The group has indicated in some recent interviews that they plan to take an extended break from recording and touring following the Australian tour. The Killers have been on the road since the late 2008 release of their third album, Day & Age.
