Phoenix Unveils Spring Tour

By: Don Kaye

Fresh off their Grammy win for Best Alternative Album and reaching Number One on the Modern Rock radio chart with "1901," French act Phoenix will come back to North America for a spring tour starting on April 17th in Santa Cruz, California and ending on the 30th in Houston. That run will include an appearance at California's Coachella Festival. The quartet will return in mid-June for three more shows, including a performance at the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee.

Bassist Deck D'Arcy told us that the band's latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, was almost tailor-made to be played live: "This album is the most enjoyable album to play because all the songs -- I think in our mind, we, they were more designed for live than the previous albums. It's the first time we can play the whole album live. Before, we had to drop a lot of songs, and on this one we can play everything. It doesn't mean that the songs are better or anything, but it's just that it's more fun to play for us."

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, the band's fourth album, was released last year and has become the group's U.S. breakthrough.

Phoenix is only the fourth band signed to an independent label to reach the top of the Modern Rock chart in its 20-year history.

Phoenix has also composed the music for the movie Somewhere, the newest project from Lost In Translation writer/director Sofia Coppola. The film is due out later this year.
