Linkin Park Releases Video To Help Haiti Relief Efforts

By: Don Kaye

Linkin Park released a music video on Thursday (February 11th) for "Not Alone," the song that the band recorded for its online Haiti relief effort, Download To Donate For Haiti. The video features footage of the group performing the song in the studio interspersed with images of the devastation wreaked upon the island nation by the massive earthquake that struck there on January 12th.

Linkin Park bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell told us that the song itself is a combination of both an old and new recording session: "The music for the track actually came off of our (2007) Minutes To Midnight sessions. However, the song itself wasn't completed. When this idea started formulating as far as creating a downloadable player with exclusive tracks, you know, we knew we had to dig into kind of our files as well and try and find something that we had that we could contribute. Mike (Shinoda) and Chester (Bennington) were able to go in and finish the vocals for the track specifically for Download To Donate."

Download To Donate For Haiti is a digital compilation dedicated to help raise funds and promote awareness of the recovery efforts following the earthquake. The project is going through Music For Relief, the non-profit disaster assistance foundation started several years ago by Linkin Park, in conjunction with the UN Foundation's Central Emergency Response Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and Dave Matthews' BAMA Works.

Fans have the opportunity to download songs from the collection and then donate funds on a purely voluntary basis. Each download is a donation. Fans can download the unreleased songs at the Music For Relief website and via the websites of each participating artist. The player used to download the music can be embedded at other websites.

Jack Johnson, Weezer and the Crystal Method are among the latest artists to donate never-before-released songs to the cause, joining acts such as Slash, the All-American Rejects, Hoobastank, Alanis Morissette, the Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Enrique Iglesias and others. All funds received will go directly to the Haiti efforts.
